Security moved at the gate. Daniel was blocked as he tried to push past. He shouted, “You don’t understand!” Adrian looked at him across the garden. “Oh, I understand.” Then Adrian turned to Elisa. “You asked me one question,” he said. “And it changed everything.” Elisa didn’t smile.
